Nepal

We have visited Nepal several times, a lovely country with exceptionally friendly and frugal people who, despite their poverty, are very hospitable and welcoming. The first times we were in Nepal, we assisted at a fantastic eye hospital in Dhangadi in south-western Nepal, close to the border with India.

Every day, 4-500 patients and their relatives came to the site for treatment. With expert instruction from our colleague Dr. Bidya Prassad Pant, we were introduced to an effective surgical method MSICS (Manual Small Incision Cataract) which is now the method we use and would like to train more ophthalmologists in.

Later, we participated in eye camps high up at the foot of the Himalayas in the town of Jogbuda, which is only connected to the outside world for a few months of the year, as it is otherwise surrounded by torrential meltwater floods from the Himalayas.

Eye Rescue has donated much equipment, such as microscopes, instruments, phaco machines, lenses and glasses, as well as slit lamps and ultrasound scanners. Dr. Bidya Prassad Pant has participated in many of our missions since then, and we hope to continue our cooperation for a long time to come.
